Being polite and Culture.

There is a proverb 'It is the best way that you follow adult's idea.' in Korea. It's very important to be polite, especially to old people because most Korean worry about age when they meet a person. Actually, America's culture and Korea's culture are different definitely. So, what people are considered rude are also different. For example, when we meet old people or work with old people in Korea, usually young people work more than old people and they have to respect old people. In America, although I'm younger than someone who meet with me, it's not rude to make him do something and I don't need to be polite as long as I act nomally. In my house, it is rude to eat earrier than parents when we eat together, but in America not. Like this, a lot of things are differnet, so we must understand about different customs.

Hello Song,
In Taiwan we respect the people that elder than us, too. Also we have so many rituals familiar with each other but in little different way. In Taiwan, when you have meal with elders, you should pure drink for them by two hand, ususlly you have to stand up to do that to show your respect. And when an elder who want to pure drink to your cup, say "you don't have to do so,", first. If the elder insist to do that you should stand up and hold your cup with two hand to show your respect and thank.
I know that Korean also have similar ritual, too.

I think you are right about understanding different customs. Last night, it was nice to see Korean manners with you and your friends, because I have explained the rules about using two hands and pouring for other people to Emily, but she had never seen them.

Thanks for a great night!
